SAFE HAVEN BURSARIES

St Aloysius’ College has a history of helping those “where the need is greatest” and supporting pupils whose families have escaped religious persecution or sought refuge in Glasgow from war-torn countries.

Sadly, this year is no different as since the start of the 2022-23 academic year, we have received a number of applications for Bursary places for young people who have escaped the war in Ukraine.  Fleeing to safety from bombed cities, families and lives are fractured, and many are living in low budget B&B accommodation in Glasgow city centre.

These young people have not been in education since February and since arriving in Glasgow they have been put on waiting lists due to lack of capacity in secondary schools.

Bursaries have been awarded to three pupils so far, but more help is needed, giving a new and urgent focus to providing support “where the need is greatest”.

How can our Aloysian Community help with Safe Haven Bursaries?

Please give whatever you can to support this initiative.  Below are some examples of regular gifts and what they can achieve.  Single gifts are also welcome.

£18.59/month + Gift Aid = £278.85 per year – this covers the cost of one Retreat.

£33.34/month + Gift Aid = £500 per year – this goes towards the cost of a school uniform

£66.67/month + Gift Aid = £1,000 per year – this covers school lunches for 3 full terms.

£6,000 + Gift Aid = £7,500 per year – this covers 6 months of school fees.
